Inspiration

We are both interested in the worlds of finance and entertainment. As AI advances, will there still be traditional jobs? What if in the future the only thing to bring us fun is to learn how to trade stocks of the companies that own everything? Inspired by the memes that consumed Generation Alpha, we asked ourselves whether learning to trade felt like a game with XP bars, achievements and an AI guide.

What it does

TradeQuest 2036 is a gamified trading simulator set in a dystopian future where AI companies own everything. Guided onboarding: Enter your name, patronus and intro. Simple buy/sell buttons AI-powered chat Interactive tutorial: For the dashboard walkthrough XP-System AI Patronus companion

How we built it

Frontend: Typescript, Vultr, Tailwind CSS, React AI integration: Claude API, ElevenLabs Local Storage Architecture decision

Challenges we ran into

Making the trading accessible without making it too hard and underestimating our users

• The patronus personality was hard to nail down at first* Avoiding the zombie voice playback ## Accomplishments that we're proud of A fully functional web app using Vultr as the cloud to host our application. A voice playback lifecycle: We had zombie audios before but we resolved this. State persistence edge cases: For generic stocks to AI companies, returning users had orphaned positions in local Storage referencing assets that no longer existed. We had to handle the degradation for stale state as best as possible. Patronus personality: The patronus that twe added of famous memes actually sounded like the characters we had to program Claude carefully to stay in character for most of these. ## What we learned We gave the app to more than 5 participants: Had a positive reaction from all of them. Simplicity wins all the time: The more we removed the more the app stood out and worked better. ## What's next for TradeQuest 2036 Multiplayer leaderboards: Compare portfolios with friends in real time. Market events: Announced news events. Mobile-first redesign: Works on mobile, but we can improve it further. Crypto wallet: Want to add ways for people to possibly experiment with crypto Persistent data: Add database, user login and registration, instead of the local storage ## What's next for TradeQuest 2036
