Inspiration
We wanted to create a platform that would allow communities to interact in a productive manner.
What it does
The platform facilitates skill and resource sharing among members of any community. Importantly, the platform has 0 cost of entry, and can be continuously used as an effective low-cost solution.
How we built it
We used a mySQL database on the back-end to host all the data for all the entities participating in our platform. We're able to maintain persistent statistics and important information to facilitate a scaling platform. We used PHP, HTML, CSS, Javascript to interact with data elements and to create the front-end user interfaces.
Challenges we ran into
Managing data formats and revising our tools integration for the final product. Also, we had to curb some of our more ambitious ideas in favor of finishing in time. We had issues with time-zone, Google Maps API integration (almost done), and some data validation.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We have a mostly working marketplace that shows a strong proof of concept, and our vision for what we would like to see in the next few days.
What we learned
A lot. We all gained impressive proficiency in full stack development. We now know how to integrate our education into customer-facing web application development.
What's next for tradeoff
We want to create add-ons for different types of transaction categories that facilitate improved customer experiences for users of the specific products and services. We also want to discover information about our users to better match the service to its users needs. We would like to further hash out our idea of the in-system currency (or external USD).
