What it does

Many young people hesitate to invest due to fear of losses, lack of expertise, or the overwhelming complexity of financial markets. Our platform removes these barriers by combining AI-driven education with an interactive stock market simulation, allowing users to gain hands-on experience in a risk-free environment. By gamifying financial learning, we help users build confidence, understand market trends, and develop real investing skills before committing real money.

Our AI chatbot serves as a personal financial guide, answering investment-related questions in a clear and accessible way. Once ready, users enter a simulation where the AI provides real-time stock market data as well as general financial data, enabling them to analyze current market trends and make informed decisions. They can buy stocks, receive performance updates, and decide whether to hold, sell, or reinvest—mirroring real-world investing decisions. This hands-on approach teaches users about market cycles, long-term investing, and risk management in an engaging and practical way.


How we built it

To power this experience, we built a seamless interface using React.js and integrated an AI chatbot via Langflow, OpenAI, and Tavilly, ensuring personalized learning through prompt engineering. The primary language used was Python. The simulation is driven by live market data from the Yahoo Finance API. These technologies work together to create an immersive and educational platform.


Challenges we ran into

Initially, we planned to implement autonomous AI-driven trading but pivoted due to time constraints. This shift proved valuable—our platform now actively teaches users how to invest rather than simply automating trades.

Another challenge was ensuring the AI delivered accurate and digestible financial explanations while keeping the experience interactive and engaging. Additionally, integrating real-time market data into an interactive simulation required overcoming API limitations and structuring data in a meaningful way for users.


Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully built an AI chatbot that adapts to users’ knowledge levels, making complex financial concepts easier to understand. Another major achievement was developing an interactive investment simulation using real-time data, allowing users to practice decision-making in realistic market conditions. Finally, we seamlessly integrated multiple technologies to create an experience that bridges AI-driven insights with hands-on financial learning.


What we learned

One of our biggest takeaways was that interactive education is more effective than passive AI-driven trading—our pivot made the platform more valuable to beginners. We also gained insights into optimizing prompt engineering to tailor AI responses effectively and explored ways to structure real-time data for an engaging simulation. Additionally, we saw how gamification significantly improves user engagement by making investing feel more like a challenge rather than an intimidating process.


What's next for TradeHive

Moving forward, we plan to expand with multiplayer simulations, leaderboards, and community-driven features to enhance engagement. We also want to introduce more advanced trading strategies, helping users understand different risk profiles.

In the long term, we aim to bring back our original vision—developing a multi-agent AI system capable of autonomous trading simulations, allowing users to see how AI-driven strategies perform across different market conditions. Ultimately, our goal is to bridge the gap between learning and real investing, giving users the confidence to navigate financial markets intelligently.
