According to a study, 70% of the students drop their college as they are not able to manage their expenses. So, our team wanted to solve this issue using a intuitive and easy to use cloud based voice enabled expense tracker.

It becomes a difficult to track and manage your personal expense when you’re studying so we thought of building an interface in which the student can simply feed his/her daily expenses via simple text as SMS or Voice using Alexa and can also call there financial adviser when in need. All the expenses will further be stored in our database which can be viewed by the student at any time. The best part is this interface throws up notification via SMS when you run out of budget and encourages you to spend money efficiently.

What it does

There are many mobile applications in the market which deals with your expenses but it’s such a hassle to navigate to a mobile application for entering your expense when you’re buying something so making this process bit simple was our goal.

So, our interface makes you update your daily expense with a simple message e.g. Milk $2.50, we can also update the expenses using Alexa. All the expenses will be stored in the database that the student can access at any time. The database will demonstrate the expenditure done by the student in the particular month over the graphs.

How we built it

We used Twilio based SMS interface and a Alexa Skill set that talks with the same backend. It stores the data from these inputs and store them in the Google firebase database. They can also monitor their expenses on our dashboard at Application website

Challenges we ran into

The main challenge we faced was integrating Alexa skills and SMS service to work at the same time with the common database. Even the Yes/No Customized intent was a challenge for us to develop.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of the fact that we were able to pull up a marketable product with all the major features required by students to manage their expenses! We came into this hackathon with no ideas, but we all came together and ended up creating something that could be beneficial to many students like us and could really be a useful tool.

What's next for TrackX

We can add more robustness to the codebase. Try and test and make it a product that can work on multiple voice enable devices. We also wanted to make sure that students can take pictures of the receipts and can send to as an MMS and would automatically do the processing using Image Processing. User can also delete or modify expense as required.

Try using +1-617-890-6207 for SMS based application.
