Inspiration
Losing something valuable—whether it's a phone, wallet, or even a sentimental keepsake—can be stressful and frustrating. Traditional lost & found systems, like notice boards or social media posts, are inefficient and often lack proper tracking.
We wanted to create Findora, a smart, AI-powered Lost & Found platform that makes it easier for people to report lost items and find them faster. The idea was inspired by: Personal experiences. Existing inefficiencies. Technology’s potential.
What it does
Findora is a smart Lost & Found platform that helps users quickly report and recover lost items through AI-powered matching. It connects people who have lost items with those who have found them, making the process efficient and hassle-free. Key Features: Report Lost & Found Items – Users can submit detailed reports, including item descriptions, photos, and last known locations. AI-Powered Matching – Uses natural language processing (NLP) to compare lost and found item descriptions for better accuracy. QR Code Feature – Users can generate and attach QR codes to valuables, allowing finders to scan and report lost items easily. Geolocation Tracking – Helps users mark where they lost or found an item, improving recovery chances. Real-Time Notifications – Users receive alerts when a potential match for their lost or found item is detected. Findora makes it easier for users to reclaim their lost belongings with minimal effort, reducing stress and saving time.
How we built it
Frontend: React Native (for a cross-platform mobile app experience) Backend: Firebase (for real-time database & authentication) AI Matching: OpenAI’s NLP API (to compare lost & found item descriptions) Hosting & Deployment: Vercel (for frontend) & Firebase (for backend services)
Challenges we ran into
Matching lost and found items based on text descriptions was tricky since people describe the same item in different way Solutions: Integrated user authentication (Google Sign-In) to ensure only verified users could submit reports. Added an item verification step where users must confirm ownership before claiming an item. Real-Time Updates & Performance. Geolocation accuracy.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
AI-Powered Smart Matching System. Real-Time Lost & Found Reports. QR Code Integration. Overcoming Technical Challenges.
What we learned
AI & NLP for Smart Matching. Real-Time Database & Performance Optimization. Problem-Solving & Team Collaboration. Deployment & Scalability.
