Inspiration

We obtained our inspiration from the astonishing technological developments in the whole of medicine, for instance, Big data to help professional doctors to make accurate and detailed diagnosis and treatments. This led us to think, how can we help medication treatments be easy to use and accessible to everyone? Hence, we thought of how our elders around us can forget to take their medication which can be damaging to their health progress and made this app to help both doctors and patients communicate details properly instead of scheduling multiple appointments which are time consuming and costly.

What it does

This app is a health app which is accessible to everyone. It helps patients to track and set the time for their medication, blood pressure, mood, hours of sleep and weight according to their health complications. It can also give a weekly progress report whereby it inserts all the health data that the patient has tracked and makes an average for the week. The doctor also has access to it by mail and other forms of media sharing so that they can analyse the results and make another appointment based on the results. This app can be used as an interactive app between doctors and patients to facilitate communication. The patient and the doctor both have access to a journal within the app in which they can document their symptoms, changes in medication or use it to make other necessary appointments. The doctors can have access to the patient’s health data, whether it is their intake of the proper medication, their symptoms or any other feature which the app provides. Hence, it facilitates communication for both parties where they can have a profound insight on each day of the week. The app can also use the patient’s location to allocate different pharmacies near them when they need a medication refill.

How we built it

We found a website that could translate HTML code for websites into an app. We used applications like TextEdit to write our HTML code. We used w3schools.com and other websites like it to find and learn the necessary coding to complete as much of our project as we could. We split the elements that needed coding between the three of us, but helped each other whenever one of us was stuck on an issue. We then combined the elements we coded and ran our final project through WebIntoApp to create the Android App.

Challenges we ran into

The main challenge we faced was that sometimes our codes would not work properly. Subsequently, this affected our time management as we planned to do each step according to a specific time. However, with the help of w3chools, we were able to test out the codes we created and identified the problem with each code.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

No one in our team has much coding experience at all. We all had to learn HTML as we went along. We’re quite proud that we managed to learn enough HTML to finish as much of the app as we did.

What we learned

We learnt various skills such as teamwork and collaboration. We learnt about the value of being in a team to successfully create this health app as we delegated every task of the hackathon from the initial features to the final video. Most importantly, we learnt how to code an app, solely with an internet connection and a team of like-minded people who strive for change. This coding opportunity and workshop education will help us in our career as aspiring women in stem.

What's next for Track My Health

We would work on coding the backend so that users could have access to their medical records in a database. In this way, users would also be able to connect to their doctors and grant them access to the databases. Additionally, we would want to code a login so that users can protect their data.
