Inspiration

One team member spent six months studying in the Global South, specifically in the Katanga slum in Uganda. There, they experienced how foreign waste is dumped in the local environment.

What it does

Tracing trash traces where hazardous waste exported from the EU ends up. This is done to prevent waste from being disposed of elsewhere than where it appears on paper.

Challenges we ran into

We challenged ourselves to create this project in the time span of a train journey.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to have launched this project in the time span of a train journey. We hope to inspire our fellow students to invest their idle time to make an impact.

What we learned

During ideation, we learned how to narrow down a problem to create a presentable solution with limited time and resources.

What's next for Tracing Trash

If we receive funding, we would begin testing prototypes of Bluetooth low-energy trackers to be added to local waste streams in our municipality.
