Inspiration

Developers often waste hours searching for solutions to confusing error messages, debugging code, and fixing API or database issues. We created TraceTidy to make troubleshooting simpler, faster, and less stressful for beginners and experienced developers alike.

What it does

TraceTidy is a developer troubleshooting platform that helps users understand errors, identify possible causes, and follow step-by-step solutions. It aims to provide error diagnosis, project troubleshooting, API and database assistance, architecture guidance, and a library of saved solutions.

How we built it

Our planned technology stack includes React and TypeScript for the frontend, Python and FastAPI for the backend, and SQLite for storing solutions. We designed the platform around a clean, responsive workspace with rule-based diagnostics that can work without a paid AI API.

Challenges we ran into

Key challenges include interpreting different types of errors, providing useful explanations for beginners, handling incomplete debugging information, designing a simple interface for complex technical problems, and protecting sensitive code and credentials.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the TraceTidy concept, its developer-focused design, and its emphasis on accessible, practical debugging assistance. Our goal is to make troubleshooting more approachable while keeping essential functionality affordable and transparent.

What we learned

We learned that debugging is not just about finding a fix—it is also about understanding why an error occurs. We also recognized the importance of clear explanations, reliable diagnostics, data privacy, testing, and building tools that remain useful without expensive external services.

What's next for TraceTidy

Our next steps are to implement and validate the core troubleshooting workflows, expand our diagnostic rules, improve project file inspection, add safer code-fix reviews, and enhance solution search and export. Future improvements may include optional AI assistance, team collaboration, and integrations with developer tools.
