Inspiration

Traces of Life was inspired by quiet moments — the kind that often pass unnoticed. It captures the stillness of everyday existence: the sound of rain against a window, the glow of a distant lantern, the solitude of a seaside afternoon. We wanted to tell a story that reflects how beauty can exist even in silence, and how memory lingers in the simplest of things.

What it does

This project blends cinematic storytelling and AI technology to create a short, emotionally resonant visual poem. It follows a young woman through one reflective day — from sunlight and sea to rain and night — capturing her quiet journey through emotion, memory, and peace.

How we built it

Traces of Life was built entirely using creative AI tools and cinematic compositing:

Each scene was carefully written using cinematic prompting, referencing Japanese film aesthetics and natural emotional rhythm to evoke realism and intimacy.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was maintaining emotional consistency across AI-generated visuals. Matching lighting, tone, and movement required refining prompts multiple times until the mood felt cohesive and natural.

Accomplishments that we’re proud of

We’re proud of how Traces of Life conveys human emotion through artificial intelligence — blending technology and art seamlessly. The film feels deeply human despite being built with AI tools, which was our ultimate goal.

What we learned

We learned that storytelling through AI isn’t about perfection — it’s about emotion, pacing, and tone. Every small detail, from rain to silence, can evoke empathy when crafted with intent and patience.

What's next for Traces of Life

We plan to expand Traces of Life into a longer AI short film — exploring new characters, music integration, and voice performance. The goal is to continue pushing AI cinema toward something personal, poetic, and human.
