Introduction

Handling paper records in today's technology age for a task such as counting and identifying people poses some challenges. Paper records are usually error prone, easily destroyed, non-computable and takes time to process

#The Solution - Traces. Unlike the current way of counting people which is hassling, error-prone and in-accurate, traces eliminates the need for paper records and allows the ease of recording accurate, computable records with visual reporting and analytics using RFID technology.

Counting and identifying people quickly is needed to efficiently use time and money but the only way this is done is by physical counting of people and this is difficult. In schools, 14 percent of instruction time is lost due to absenteeism and punctuality. Research indicates that has a direct correlation with poor academic performance and drop-out rates. Various studies have shown absenteeism and lateness is better managed with accurate information on student’s attendance in schools. Schools all-over Ghana face an absenteeism problem and it ranges from 9% to 30% TARGET: The Ghana National Association of Private Schools has stated that school registers is difficult to manage and collate and they require urgent solutions to help them get accurate information in order to manage absenteeism and punctuality. The primary target are private high schools in Ghana

DIMENSION: The market size is 2879 private schools which composes of low-cost private schools and medium to high cost private schools. Low cost private schools have very small number of students with 70 percent of them having a student population less than 150 so they can easily manage their student registers. Medium-cost private schools have students with numbers high enough to require automatic counting Current Situation: Currently, schools use class registers which are compiled at the end of the month or the academic term. ·
Our Solution Our solution is a smart id card system which uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) to log students coming in and leaving the school premise. The log data is uploaded to a web application which is converts this data to meaning graphs and ranks for school administrators to better manage absenteeism How it works? Each student is issued with an RFID embed ID card. Each card cost less than one Ghana cedis. A short range RFID reader placed at an entry point is picks up signal from a student entering or leaving the school. This used in checking-in and checking out students.

Innovation This is an automatic counting register for schools which does not require human intervention The solution is a low cost initiative that cost less than 2 dollars per student each year. This will help school administrators to monitor absenteeism which will help them take proactive action.

Impact

This solution is going to improve academic performance of students which leads to higher literacy.

Business Model The solution is going to be sold in packages to the target schools which is priced in three packages: junior(Ghc 800), senior(Ghc 2500) and prefect(Ghc 5000). The two sales method to be employed is direct sales and partnership with various educational organisations i.e Ghana Education Service, Ghana National Association of Private Schools and UNICEF
