TRAC-Cosmic Capsules

The goal of this project is to safety retrieve space samples safely, without the use of active propulsion or parachutes. Our multi-stage mechanism ensures samples are kept safe and uncontaminated.

What it does

Our design ensure that samples from space is landed safely on Earth without any parachuting or active propulsion systems. It features a multi-stage design that helps to safely and reliably enter through Earth's atmosphere and land safely.

How we built it

AutoCAD Inventor

Challenges we ran into

  • Creating enough drag to slow it down
  • Heat generated when burning through atmosphere
  • Material choice
  • Mechanism deployment without complex systems to increase reliability

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Is that despite having limited knowledge, we learned a lot about aerospace and material selection and completed our design wile having fun!
