Toyota Fuel Economy Analyzer (2021 - 2025)

Inspiration

As commuter students at UTD, we were inspired to develop a tool that helps Toyota make data-driven fuel efficiency decisions across their and others' vehicle lineups, enabling them to serve both environmentally conscious consumers and their bottom line.

What it does

Our interactive dashboard enables Toyota employees to visualize, compare, and analyze fuel economy data across different vehicles, years, and models through multiple chart types and detailed statistics, making it easy to identify trends and make informed decisions about fuel efficiency.

How we built it

We built a React-based web application that processes Excel data files and visualizes the insights using Chart.js. The application features a responsive user interface styled with CSS, interactive filtering capabilities, and real-time statistical analysis of Toyota's fuel economy data.

Challenges we ran into

We faced challenges with deploying our React application to Vercel and implementing the side-by-side comparison feature, particularly ensuring that both datasets maintained independent states and statistics while sharing the same visualization components.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of successfully developing a user-friendly dashboard that transforms raw fuel economy data into meaningful insights, enabling Toyota employees, and other users, to discover efficiency trends and patterns that were difficult to identify in spreadsheets.

What we learned

Throughout this project, we learned the importance of having a balance between technical functionality and user experience design. We also gained valuable experience and collaborative problem-solving.

What's next for Toyota Fuel Economy Analyzer (2021 - 2025)

Our next steps include implementing machine learning to predict future fuel economy trends for upcoming vehicle models. We also plan to enhance the analyzer by implementing a web scrapping system that continuously updates our database with the latest vehicle specifications.
