Inspiration
What inspired us to choose the problem statement was the impressive set of features that Toyota Electric Vehicles has. We aim to build a mobile application that will enhance the user experience of Toyota customers. This application is a way of showing the users how Toyota cares about its customers.
What it does
The Toyota mobile application is useful in a number of ways. The mobile application can guide you while you want to buy a new Toyota car. It helps you find the nearest charging stations, dealers, and service stations. You can register as a new user or log in with an existing account. Once you log in, it will give you an overview about the car conditions like charging, locked doors, lights on/off and so on. The application also notifies the user in case of battery discharging at a rapid rate, speed limit exceeding or overheating of the battery to make the user aware of things going wrong. Through this mobile application, Toyota also provides services like Emergency call for troubleshooting, roadside assistance, and booking appointments at service centers.
How we built it
The methodology that we used for building this mobile application was simple. We analyzed the requirements of the users and spoke to people from Toyota about what they would expect their users to know. For the same, we created a user persona to simulate how a day in a user's daily routine looks like. For building the mobile application, we used the Figma tool. The figma design file can be converted into an android package kit format. This .apk file can be downloaded and installed on android phone to install through other applications that read the .apk file.
Challenges we ran into
None of the team members had experience of the mobile application coding and building . Also it was the first hackathon of all team members.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we could make the prototype by understanding the needs and requirements of the user.
What we learned
We learned a number of things while implementing this project idea. The most important thing we learnt was how to understand the requirements of customer and implement their needs in our app. We also worked on how to convey the information to user which he thinks may not be important but is vital from the user safety or car health point of view.
What's next for Toyota EV Mobile App
We aim to take this project to a next level where we can communicate with the car in a better way to provide insights of the car conditions which will be beneficial for the users. For example, we can implement deep learning and machine learning algorithms to understand the driving pattern of the driver and give an alert if the driving is rash. This can be done by recording how often and sudden the brakes and applied and the steering wheel is rotated. We can also set user dependent speed limits for novice drivers.
