Inspiration

We were heavily inspired by Apple's designs and are all big fans of the famous designer Jony Ive, and referenced their pieces of art when we were working on our project's frontend. Toyota's infotainment system is one of the best we've ever seen, and decided that it would be a fun experiment to work on putting our own twist on it.

What it does

We redesigned and expanded Toyota's current infotainment system to give users a new, clean interface with new, advanced features. We implemented (or at least intended to) many new features that we hope would help users have the best experience that they possibly could. We were inspired by many of the apps that we use, like Spotify and Waze, and tried to implement the best parts of them into our infotainment system.

How we built it

We built our backend with both Node.js, Python, GCP's APIs and used GCP's storage buckets for testing. For our frontend we used Next.js and Tailwind CSS.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into countless challenges. It took forever to get GCP configured so that we could even try to start working with it. We had a bunch of errors when cloning our environment from one system to another, frequent merge conflicts, lots of random errors that lacked explanations, and encountered lots of outdated documentation.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were apple to come out with a clean, functioning app in the end!

What we learned

We learned how to set up our environments to work with a wide variety of technologies that we hadn't used before, and how to deal with the many errors that could come along with that!
