Toxic Survivor

Sometimes, we recall the news stories discussing global warming and environmental issues at large. Our team, upon seeing this challenge, decided to participate and showcase one of the possible futures where people ignored these issues, leading to catastrophic consequences. So we created game Toxic Survivor for android phones.

The Concept

Our concept narrates the life of our hero, Bob, who must struggle in a post-apocalyptic world inspired by the setting of the universe of Wally, with the ecosystem of a dying planet. To survive, the main character needs to maintain four primary resources:

1. Water
2. Oxygen
3. Electricity
4. Mood

This principle was borrowed from the game Reigns, where to acquire something, something else had to be given in return. Thus, through losing and gaining, the hero must survive to win.

Development Tools and Challenges

Dart/Flutter was utilized as the main platform for developing game mechanics and visuals. Tools such as ChatGPT-4 for seeking inspiration and solving certain problems, PixelLab and Aseprite for creating and fitting graphics respectively, Git and GitHub for facilitating coding in a team, and Android Studio, where our entire process took place, were employed.

During the project, we encountered challenges such as time zone differences (each team member was in different countries, with the maximum time difference being 8 hours), program crashes and data loss, searching for the necessary neural networks that would meet our requirements, and attempts to achieve what we wanted.

Conclusion

In the end, despite all obstacles, our project "Toxic Survivor" was created. We not only developed a game that immerses players in a world on the brink of an ecological disaster but also highlighted the importance of a conscious attitude towards the environment. The development process was not only a test of our programming and design skills but also a check of our ability to work as a team, overcoming physical and temporal barriers.

We are proud to have been able to use cutting-edge technologies and tools to achieve our goal and hope that our game will inspire players to think about the consequences of their actions for the environment. "Toxic Survivor" serves as a reminder that the future of our planet depends on the choices we make today.
