Inspiration
Through personal experience, we've learned that it's extremely difficult to gather all of the information necessary to be an engaged participant in local, municipal, and national activities and legislation. We decided to create a model for an app that would amalgamate all of this information into one platform to make it more readily accessible. Being able to quickly and easily gain and spread information is crucial in developing an interconnected, aware, and safe community, especially in the time of COVID.
What it does
Town Square allows local government officials to share information with their constituents through a streamlined process. The main screens allow users to view announcements, calendar updates, and COVID update when they are posted by their government.
How we built it
We spend the past weekend collaborating on Figma to create the prototype for this app.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges we faced was conceptualizing a feasible solution as to how we could use tech to aid in social issues and bring people together. After iterating through several ideas, we ultimately decided that creating a simple yet potent community news platform/calendar would be extremely useful and effective.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of how the aesthetics of our UI/UX turned out and how they complemented the app's function. We wanted the app to be very user-friendly and intuitive, and we feel that our design makes that possible while still communicating large quantities of information.
What we learned
We learned how to do many new things in Figma, such as making screens that scroll, designing a logo, and creating links that lead to subsequent pages.
What's next for Town Square
Other than implementing Town Square beyond the prototype, creating a user-base of governments and constituents is a foreseeable step. Beyond that, we could add customization features based on the user's political alignment, past events, and connections to tailor individual schedules and prioritize certain event displays for a usr.
