Inspiration

We are fanatics of the tool called RPG Maker. This tool has made many different 2D games that are extremely popular in the indie game society. Even though these are not games that are necessarily programmed, they have a relatively generic system that allows users to easily make other fun games. Games such as Angel of Death and the Witch's house inspired us to make a mystery game that focused around narrating a good story.

What it does

As a 2D game, you are a knight who was ordered by the king to find the source of the plague. You stumble upon this town and ask the townspeople about what they might know. However, as you have no idea whether they are lying or not you have to find evidence to force the truth out of them. As you scavenge the town, you find incriminating evidence to arrest the townspeople. Your goal is to ultimately find and arrest the person who has started the plague.

How we built it

We built this using C++, Visual Studio 2017, and Ubisoft's Nest API that was built on top of SFML (Simple and Fast Multimedia Library).

Challenges we ran into

We faced many challenges as the API that we were provided with was very primitive. Hence there were a lot of fixes that were required for the engine. A lot of time was spent creating helper functions to help us make an actual game.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Cow
  • Animations
  • Text Component
  • Physics Component
  • Dialogue System
  • Randomization

What we learned

  • Extreme pixel art
  • Using 3rd party engines
  • Adding features to a 3rd party engine
