TOWN HOLIDAY PARADE
🎄 Inspiration
Town Holiday Parade was inspired by the magic of community celebrations—the kind where every street corner feels alive, every character has a story, and the entire town becomes a stage. I wanted to capture the warmth, nostalgia, and spectacle of holiday parades while giving players the freedom to explore, create, and participate in a living, breathing world.
The project also draws from my passion for immersive storytelling and worldbuilding. I envisioned a place where culture, creativity, and collaboration collide in a joyful, interactive environment.
🎁 What it does
Town Holiday Parade is an interactive digital world where users can:
- Explore a festive town filled with animated characters, themed floats, and holiday magic
- Participate in parade events, mini-games, and community challenges
- Customize their own floats, costumes, and characters
- Experience dynamic day/night cycles, weather effects, and evolving storylines
- Engage with NPCs who each have unique personalities, quests, and holiday traditions
It’s a celebration of creativity, culture, and connection—wrapped in a vibrant, playful world.
🛠️ How we built it
Town Holiday Parade was built using a combination of:
- Unity for world design, animation, and interactive mechanics
- Blender for float models, character assets, and environmental elements
- C# scripting to bring the parade logic, quests, and interactions to life
- AI-assisted tools for ideation, dialogue generation, and environmental storytelling
- Figma for UI/UX mockups and menu design
- Sound design tools to create an immersive holiday atmosphere
The development process blended traditional game-building techniques with rapid prototyping and iterative creative exploration.
🚧 Challenges we ran into
- Balancing performance with visual richness: Parade scenes can get crowded fast, so optimizing assets and animations was essential.
- Creating believable NPC behavior: Giving each character personality and purpose required careful scripting and world logic.
- Time constraints: Building a full world in a hackathon timeframe meant prioritizing features without sacrificing the magic.
- Integrating multiple creative tools: Ensuring consistency across 3D models, UI, and narrative elements took coordination and refinement.
🏆 Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Building a fully explorable holiday-themed world in a short timeframe
- Designing unique floats and characters that feel alive and culturally expressive
- Creating a festive atmosphere that players immediately connect with
- Developing a modular system that allows for future expansion—new holidays, new parades, new stories
- Crafting a joyful experience that celebrates community, creativity, and tradition
📚 What we learned
- How to rapidly prototype a world while maintaining artistic cohesion
- New optimization techniques for handling large crowds and animated assets
- The importance of narrative layering in interactive environments
- How AI tools can accelerate creativity without replacing the human touch
- That even small details—like snowfall timing or character greetings—can transform immersion
🎆 What’s next for Town Holiday Parade
The world of Town Holiday Parade is just getting started. Future plans include:
- Expanding the town with new districts and seasonal events
- Adding multiplayer features so friends can join the parade together
- Introducing user-generated floats and costumes
- Building deeper story arcs tied to cultural celebrations around the world
- Integrating VR support for a fully immersive parade experience
- Launching a community hub where players can share creations, vote on parade themes, and collaborate
Town Holiday Parade is more than a game—it’s a growing universe of joy, creativity, and celebration.
