Tower Run is a fully asynchronous multiplayer game that still gives players the feeling of playing synchronously. On Reddit, this is a perfect fit, because it adds more excitement and FOMO, players feel constant competition during a race without having to wait for others to join a lobby, like in traditional synchronous multiplayer games.

Gameplay revolves around racing another player to the top of a tower by jumping left or right to reach higher platforms. But timing is key, because there are plenty of traps along the way. If a player reaches the top faster than the person who posted the tower, they get a chance to fight a boss and steal the Power Core, an item that allows them to create their own tower.

Building your own tower lets you harvest souls, a currency earned whenever another player dies in your tower. Souls can then be used to upgrade your tower. Currently, upgrades increase the rate of soul generation, but I have big plans for many more improvements, unlocking additional towers, enhancing the player, and much, much more.

The game will be really expansive. I plan to add new types of platforms, more boss battles, and separate dungeons where players can face tougher bosses. Most importantly, I’ll start working on full sound design, with music synced to the player’s jumping speed via MIDI.

What excites me the most is the way it leverages Reddit: every tower posted is its own post that reaches many players, who in turn create their own towers, and the cycle continues. I had an absolute blast creating this game, and my head is full of ideas for its future.

PS. The splashscreen looks good in Reddit Dark Mode, but in Light Mode the text isn’t visible, however, with just a few minutes left until the deadline, I didn’t have time to fix it.
