Inspiration
I was inspired by the satisfying progression loops in tower defense, merge, and incremental upgrade games. I wanted to design a mobile-first experience where the player understands the goal immediately, starts making meaningful decisions within seconds, and constantly feels close to the next reward.
What it does
Tower Defense: Merge Your Army! is a fast-paced mobile tower defense game where players defend a barricade through 500 waves. Players buy units, merge matching units into stronger defenders, equip towers, earn gold from defeated enemies, upgrade their army, unlock new realms, and rebirth for permanent power.
How we built it
I built the project as a complete pre-production package. The design includes a Game Design Document, Player Journey Map, Visual Concept Package, and Production Plan. I created the core loop, economy, unit and tower systems, realm progression, mobile UI direction, upgrade wall, shop, rebirth system, and production roadmap.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was keeping the game deep while still making it easy to understand on mobile. I had to balance mergeable units, non-merge towers, gold, diamonds, upgrades, checkpoints, rebirth, realms, and leaderboards without overwhelming the player. I also had to scope the idea carefully so the MVP stays realistic.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am proud of how clear and satisfying the core loop became: kill enemies, earn gold, buy units, merge, upgrade, and push farther. I am also proud of the 500-wave realm structure, the active/reserve unit system, the rebirth loop, and the mobile-first UI direction that makes progression easy to read.
What we learned
I learned that strong tower defense design depends on clear pressure, readable choices, and constant progression and I also learned the importance of separating MVP features from future scope, validating the core loop early, and making every system support the same player promise.
What's next for Tower Defense: Merge Your Army!
Next, I hope to prototype the core gameplay loop: enemy spawning, unit purchasing, drag-to-merge, gold drops, upgrades, barricade health, and checkpoints. After that, I will add towers, rebirth, realm transitions, daily quests, leaderboards, and live events.
