Inspiration
What it does## Inspiration
Tourismo was inspired by my desire to help more people around the world discover Rwanda. One day, I watched a YouTube Short in which someone did not recognize Rwanda. It made me think about how much of my country the world might not know about. I wanted to create something that could showcase Rwanda's beauty, culture, attractions, and unique experiences to a wider audience.
What I Built
Tourismo is a tourism website designed to help people discover Rwanda and explore the places that make it special. My goal is to make it easier for visitors to learn about destinations, discover new experiences, and develop an interest in visiting Rwanda.
How I Built It
I used HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to develop the website's interface and Node.js and Express.js for the backend. I also integrated MongoDB to manage user data and worked on authentication features to help users create accounts and log in. Building Tourismo has allowed me to turn an idea into a real web project while learning through practical experience.
Challenges I Faced
One of my biggest challenges was connecting the frontend to the backend and getting the website to work correctly after deployment. I also faced difficulties with database integration, user authentication, and email verification. Solving these problems required patience, testing, and learning new concepts along the way.
What I Learned
Through Tourismo, I learned that building a website involves much more than writing code. It requires problem-solving, persistence, testing, and continuous improvement. I also learned how frontend and backend technologies work together to create a functional web application.
What's Next
I hope to continue improving Tourismo by adding more destinations, interactive trip-planning tools, and features that help tourists connect with local guides and discover authentic Rwandan experiences. Ultimately, I want Tourismo to help more people discover Rwanda and contribute to the growth of its tourism industry.
