TourHub

Inspiration

Our inspiration for this project was the idea of using different APIs and putting our new WebDev skills to the test.

What it does

TourHub is a web app that essentially you can text a number a location of where you are or going to be and it provides you with the top 5 nearest tourist destinations

How we built it

We used Ngrok and Twilio for the SMS side of the project and VSC with HTML, CSS, and Javascript to build the website.

Challenges we ran into

Some of the challenges we faced were learning how to start a VM in any Cloud service, while also learning how to use AWS, Google Cloud Platform, and Ngrok all for the first time. Another challenge we faced was incorporating a parser for user input in the text messages to look just for the locations and discard anything else. Our biggest challenge was that we could get the Javascript interface, website interface, and the Twilio interface all to work together to form Web App.

I worked on an exciting project where I used Google Cloud, Google Maps API, JavaScript, Ngrok, and Twilio. My job was to develop the back-end of the project. It was a challenging but rewarding experience, and I'm proud of what I accomplished.

One of the key things I did was integrate Google Maps API into the application. This allowed us to display real-time location data and let users search for nearby locations. We also used Google Cloud to host the application, which made it fast, reliable, and scalable.

To send SMS notifications to users, we integrated Twilio, and Ngrok helped us test and debug the integration.

Overall, it was an excellent opportunity to work with the latest technologies and gain valuable experience. I'm looking forward to applying what I learned to new projects.
