Inspiration

We often forget to simply go outside and touch some grass. Appreciating nature is taken for granted, especially in the city life. We were mainly inspired by social media apps such as Instagram to give users the ability to have a special little place for documenting nature.

What it does

TouchGrass is an app that allows you to take a picture of your environment. If the AI system detects that you are indeed taking a picture of plants/flowers/trees/bushes, it will accept the image and allow you to save it in a gallery where others are allowed to also look at what you share. An additional feature is flower detection/education section where the system can tell you what flower is in the picture you took.

How we built it

We built it using Figma as the design/user interface and then for the image detection feature (no videos), we used Python and Swift.

Challenges we ran into

We had some trouble connecting the Figma layout to the actual backend part of the project.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We worked together on every aspect and made sure to share all of our ideas in the process. (All while having fun)

What we learned

We learned that we should make some valuable experience in more languages and go to more hackathons!

What's next for TouchGrass

Floral detection is the next big thing in our app. We also hope to allow users to maybe share problematic areas that require cleaning up (gotta preserve nature!).
