Inspiration

As one of our friends was leaving to go home, the idea hit us!!! All the group members simultaneous said "Get home safe" and our idea of making an application that could ensure our friend took the safest route to her destination came to life.

What it does

How we built it

TouchBase was built using sketch and invision app. All of the group members were new to app development and figured that the time we did have could be better spent detailing our idea about the application and making sure the user interface was done.

Sketch allowed us to design the user interface and make the company logo, while invisionapp was used to simulate the application without the need to do any of the backend coding.

Challenges we ran into

  • In the beginning of the competition, we had no idea what we were doing because we all thought there would have been a hypothesis however we were relieved to hear that it was a free for all!
  • A lot of learning had to get done in a short period of time but it was all worth it in the end when our vision started to come true.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • A lot of learning was done in a short period of time
  • We were able to thoroughly develop an idea that could be useful to the community

What we learned

We learned about useful technology to help us convey our idea for the app, as we did not have experience with building apps, this was a very beneficial experience. The services we used were Invision, and Sketchapp.

What's next for TouchBase

Our goal is to make our app accessible all over the world and in various different languages. Our mission is to help ensure that our users are as safe as possible when navigating through familiar and unfamiliar areas. The design will remain simple and user friendly in order to keep the user friendly interface. We would like to partner with hydro one in order to gain access to data surrounding street lights in Toronto, which will enable us to also create routes based on which streets are well lit at night.
