Inspiration
Our original ideas all had some form of multiplayer or interpersonal element where the project was meant to be used by multiple people. After narrowing down possibilities we took most of our inspiration from an old game called Fireboy and Watergirl, a browser game that was unique in that two people played it at once.
What it does
Exactly as it says on the tin: two players control different characters as they platform around and racing to get coins. Some platforms are moving, and the players will fall off of these, increasing the skill ceiling of the game. There are also portals on the top and bottom, and left and right sides of the screen, and players can move between those two pairings. The fun bit is that two people can play it on the same computer since all action happens on the same screen.
How we built it
We used the pygame library, since it's pretty beginner friendly, well documented and has lots of tutorials and examples.
Challenges we ran into
Collision detection is horrible. Platform generation and spacing was a tough tackle 1 of us have never coded in python at all none of us have much experience in pygame. very limited knowledge
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We got collision detection 80-90% working, had time to make some fun images for it. Successfully made platform gen with random handful to move left and right
What we learned
A lotttttt of python. A lot.
What's next for WarPaint Robots
If it were to be continued, our plan would to be finishing implementing the score system and making a win condition. We would also like to add combat and interactions between the players to make it more competitive. Finally, we would like to add various UI and design improvements such as the graphics and a pause feature
