Inspiration
Going to Toronto is more often than not a hassle due to its extremely busy nature, especially when driving. I find myself losing my mind trying to find parking space in the city, thus, this app was created.
What it does
Simply, this app provides a seamless user experience and has readily available information on all parking in Toronto.
How we built it
I built it using the Toronto's Open Data APIs, Google Maps API, OpenCSV API, and Android Studio.
Challenges we ran into
When converting a XLSX file to a CSV file, I ran into many problems due to the commas in the GIS coordinates.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am extremely proud that I was able to utilize such advanced APIs and create a simple and easy to use app.
What we learned
I learned that APIs are extremely useful and that there are a lot of amazing free resources for developers to use.
What's next for TorontoParking
I am hoping to develop a system that can reserve parking spots, use sensors to find available parkings in the city, and use traffic and geolocation technology to further advance the app.
