Inspiration
After learning the basic's of unity, our team decided to challenge ourselves to make our very own game in the theme of shellhacks very own sponsor, Torkoal.
What it does
This game allows to play as Torkoal, a turtle on a mission to save his friends from litter while avoiding the very same litter himself!
How we built it
We split our group into two teams, Mia and Kay worked on all of the designs used in the project; the background, the character models, and the obstacles. Jose Mercado and I worked on the programming, he was responsible for the model's collision detection, game over sign, and the restart button. I was responsible for the character movement, litter and friendly animal generator, and scoreboard.
Challenges we ran into
There were many small challenges during the creation of this project, but they all had to do with the fact that we were creating a project with an engine we had little experience in.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The challenges we faced were also the reasons why we are so proud of our project. We proved to ourselves that if we all worked together and shared our ideas, thoughts, solutions to problems we faced, as well as overall support, we can create. Even if the game is a simple one, it is one we made together.
What we learned
We learned how to use the applications listed above with the little information we had, how to collaborate with one another whenever we faced a problem, as well as learn how to be patient whenever there were incoming errors in the program.
What's next for Torkoal's Journey
We hope to take the knowledge and experience that we gained during this project and apply it in other Unity projects to come. As for Torkoal, we might even consider stepping it up into the third dimension.
