Inspiration
Tooth Fairy HQ was inspired by my family and personal experience. My sister is a dentist, my mom is a doctor, and I had braces not long ago. I often found myself at my sister’s clinic, listening to real stories from patients especially kids and teens about how hard it is to keep up with dental hygiene, manage braces issues, or know when something’s actually wrong. I wanted to create something helpful, educational, and friendly a digital dental assistant anyone could use.
What it does
Tooth Fairy HQ is an all-in-one dental health companion, especially designed for youth and everyday users. It includes: Plaque Risk Calculator – a quick quiz that gives a personalized plaque risk score Plaque Detector – upload your teeth photo to identify if plaque might be present Braces SOS – instant tips for common braces emergencies DentAI Coach – a smart assistant with bite-sized lessons and real-time Q&A Gamified Brushing Streaks – track your brushing habits and stay motivated Cleaning Reminder – alerts when you may be due for a dental cleaning
How we built it
I built the entire project solo using: HTML, CSS, JavaScript for frontend and logic OpenAI API to power the DentAI assistant Vanilla JS + localStorage to handle dynamic tabs and streak tracking VS Code + GitHub for version control Replit (early testing) and Devpost for showcasing
Challenges we ran into
Integrating multiple features while keeping the interface clean Debugging inter-tab logic and avoiding redundant alerts
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Built a full-featured solo project in under 36 hours Created a meaningful app with real-world use for youth and patients Integrated an actual AI assistant for daily micro-lessons and help
What we learned
How to manage a project across multiple components and states Connecting frontend apps with APIs and handling responses properly
What's next for Tooth Fairy HQ
Tooth Fairy HQ has the potential to scale in several directions: Image Analysis Model to improve plaque detection accuracy Clinics could customize content, monitor usage, and share it as part of post-treatment care.
