ToolScout - A revolutionary skill support tool
Inspiration
Every time I'd like to explore a new skill, or start a new project I get bombarded with so much information and tools to use, I wouldn't be able to know where to begin. I'd have to look for applications, compare between different choices trying to find trustworthy reviews and ratings from past users of each, and I'd be unable to keep track of each software I install and eventually forget what I initially downloaded them for. Then I came up with an idea for a dashboard that can list down the most used, highly rated and unbiased (as much as possible) software recommendations in an organised list, with a concise description of each, and maybe a proper instructional tutorial. All of that, in one search: _ "I would like to learn to ..." _ .
What it does
What ToolScout does, is search through certain public forums and sites to look for certain application recommendations under the subject that was entered in the search bar. It then compiles a list of each repeatedly stated recommendation, along with a link to a video tutorial on installation/startup process, and a short summary on what the tool does and is used for. This goes for almost every category of tools required for whichever task has been searched. An example would be if photography was entered, ToolScout would provide a list of appropriate tools for the following tasks needed: Image editing software, video editing software, Image/video conversion software, Social media/photography publishing sites or applications.
How we built it
The dashboard was build using Lovable, entirely vibe coded from scratch with colour palettes from coolors.co.
Challenges we ran into
Certain challenges that were encountered were ensuring the page didn't have too much blank space, and that necessary details were at certain points, improperly displayed or lacking on the results screen after a search.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The dashboard functions as intended, and I am glad to finally present a tool that can assist anyone in learning a new skill without the usual drowning of information to begin.
What we learned
Certain takeaways from this project are how the final results can always be improved, from design aspects to in depth functionality and possible the integration of an AI agent for extra help in missing information or niche skills which some people may not be able to find resources for.
What's next for ToolScout
The project will be updated with time to increase security and include other features.
