Inspiration

We were inspired by a problem we identified in how people purchase tools. Our solution is borrowing and lending out tools to people in your local area for a small fee.

What it does

Toolmeup connects people in need of a specific tool for one time use. A couple of use case examples for this would be someone needing a tent on a camping trip, a camera on a vacation, a sound system for a party, a laptop for a school project, or a snowboard for a trip to the mountains. It also allows people to lend out their tools to make a bit of passive income.

How I built it

We started with a design sprint where we broke down the apps features into user stories. We then distributed the user stories using the Kan Ban method, and created a repository on github so that we can add version control. The tools we decided to use for this project were Swift, Xcode, Firebase and Sketch.

Challenges I ran into

All of our team members were new to Hackathons. This presented various challenges, because we overestimated how much time we would have to configure our project and get everyone up and running. We initially tried using React but found that it presented too many dependency issues for us.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

We are proud of attending our first Hackathon and pushing through adversity. We got to see firsthand the challenges that can arise when beginning a new project.

What's next for toolMeUp

We plan to iterate on our first prototype and add more robust features and functionality. We also plan to create a web version of this application using react. Our mission is to make life easier for hobbyists, enthusiasts, creatives, and people in need of emergency tools.

Tools drive humanity, we used the tools available to compete in our first Hackathon, So next you're in need of a tool, don't forget to tool me up!
