ToneCaption was inspired by the idea that captions should show more than just words. For hard-of-hearing users, traditional captions can miss important parts of communication like tone, emotion, laughter, pauses, or overlapping voices.

I built ToneCaption as a website MVP with a clean, accessible interface. Users can view a live demo or upload an audio/video clip. The app displays captions with speaker names, spoken text, tone tags, and confidence levels.

One challenge was keeping the project realistic. Tone is complex, and AI may not always understand sarcasm or emotion correctly. Another challenge was choosing the right features for the first version, so I focused on a simple website demo instead of a full meeting tool.

I learned that accessibility is not just about adding captions. It is about making communication easier to understand. Words alone do not always show meaning, so tone and nonverbal cues matter.
