Inspiration
We were inspired by the grand challenges of social work, specifically the economic inequity and food accessibility.
What it does
This platform provides resources for those who need to budget their meals, as well as cost-effective STEM projects and other activities. This targets those that are low-income but are interested in STEM and other DIY projects.
How we built it
We used GitHub for organization and collaboration, React, and other basic website developing languages on Visual Studio Code.
Challenges we ran into
This is our first hackathon and real coding project, so it was a huge learning curve for us. We spent a large portion of our time organizing our code and understanding how GitHub works. After that, we were trying to figure out the terminology in which we needed to look up the code or tutorial for what we were trying to accomplish. Now that we have the website up and running, there is a bug where we cannot display content on our website. This may be due to something in the original code/platform we developed, as we went back and forth a lot with the pathways we tried to develop this website.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Although we were not able to finish our project, we're proud of the progress we made with virtually zero website development background. We now have better proficiency in GitHub, so we can work on future projects together. Now that we have a basic layout for our website, we can continue to work on the website after this hackathon.
What we learned
We learned the basic protocols for website development from scratch using certain platforms. We also learned how to use GitHub to collaborate for a more ergonomic methodology.
What's next for Tokenomics
Since we are stuck on how to add content to our web pages, that is our next step. After that, we plan to add modal pop-up components for each individual webpage, i.e., a pop-up for each webpage. This will be accompanied by a parallax effect with the navigation bar and the rest of the page (this allows for scrolling). After that, we plan to add a filtering and sort drop-down option for dietary restrictions, cost, and ingredients/materials required. On each webpage, there will also be a user-friendly submission box to submit ideas for new recipes and activities, respectively. Because of the submission box, we want to allow for logins so users can save their progress in a submission, as well as their favorite posts.
