Inspiration
After reaching junior year of college, we found it difficult to study properly and retain information without grabbing our phones or sidetracking. To try and combat this, we used a popular study method of studying for around 20 minutes and taking a 5-10 minute break.
What it does
The project uses HTML, CSS, and JS to show off the study page while allowing the website to switch pages once the internal time is over. Once the time on the study page is over, the website automatically switches to the games page where you are given 9 choices of video games to play during the time. After being in the game for a certain amount of time, the website automatically brings the user back to the study page.
How we built it
With a group of 2, we split up the work by having one person work on the front-end development while the other works on the back-end development. Since we are learning new information, it took much longer to incorporate all the code and to understand how it works. Using a lot of online resources, we were able to use those guides to help learn about the coding.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was trying to debug issues since we are learning as we go, so problems that arise are very difficult to understand what is wrong. Another challenge is trying to split the work up as much as possible since being a small group means much more contribution and collaboration is needed to make the project successful.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I think we are very proud of actually making the website functional and being able to incorporate outside materials such as games already online that are able to be used. Another accomplishment is learning new languages while practicing a few languages that we already understood before going into this project.
What we learned
We learned a lot about how front-end and back-end development go together since having to know how to properly incorporate the code without breaking was a very vital skill. Another thing we learned is the ideas and planning that go into these projects since we planned out what to do instead of just starting to code randomly.
What's next for TOIS
I think that we want to be able to properly incorporate Quizlet into the website so that people can study on the website. Another plan is to make the timers able to be changed by the user to allow more flexibility in the study process for them. We also want to make the website more visually appealing since it will help users stay on the website.
