Background

Gun violence has astonishingly exacerbated around the country in recent months. What happened to Pittsburgh last week has teared apart our heart, echoing concerns over inclusiveness and community security. According to Business Insider, there have been 297 mass shootings in the US so far in 2018. This is crazy. While we are blaming bureaucracy for being a “lame duck” on gun legislation, it’s also the time for enterprises, especially technology companies, to reflect upon how to cope with gun violence. ToGather, also a pun for “TOGETHER,” aims to develop a mobile APP to provide emergency help in case of mass shooting. In this proposal, we will use a gun violence occurred at Mount Holyoke College as an example to present how “ToGather” can serve as an effective toolkit to mitigate security crisis.
