Inspiration
Penelope waited for 20 years for her man to come home from the Trojan war and could have remarried at any moment. What could have made her troubles less stressful? If she and Odysseus had Facebook where they could communicate about his travels and her ruling as queen. Our app posts stories from Greek literature from the perspective of characters as if they were personal stories or newsfeed stories. And it also has a mock-messenger, with which the ancients would kept in touch without boats.
What it does
It whimsically posts Ancient Greek or Latin stories in their original as if they were Facebook posts or newsfeed articles. It is often difficult to find things to read in Latin or Greek, so this website lets people pretend to be those characters in the chatbox or read those characters' tales in the the newsfeed.
How we built it
We have an Express server run the chatbox and a Flask server run the newsfeed/posts.
Challenges we ran into
Connecting Express with Flask, making the website pretty, showing Greek letters
Accomplishments that we're proud of
converting XML to human-readable format
What we learned
Dominic and Jeremy are new to web development and Molika learned about Flask apps
What's next for Togas and Gyros
Make the website prettier and make newsfeed look more like it comes from a person instead of a story. Make the stories only say what the characters said in a more narrative way instead of the entire story.
