What it is

The Town of Cary, NC is testing a municipal offering that will allow citizens to interact with services and data across the town. We are excited to introduce this Alexa skill to our Cary community in the near future, to assist those who may have special access issues or those who may just want to work with the town in a new interesting way.

How it Works

Based on the Alexa triggered intent, the skill may interact with the Town’s open data site (https://data.townofcary.org), our GIS site (https://maps.townofcary.org) our website’s RSS event feed (https://www.townofcary.org), our Salesforce based CRM, or any combination of these.

How it is initiated

Users will initiate the skill by either creating an account in the Town’s portal or linking their address information to an existing account. With the Salesforce community-based login information, the skill can have access to the citizen’s address information which many of our intents depend.

What it can do now

Our initial intent offerings includes the ability to ask general information about the Town of Cary, including “what are our hours”, “who is my council member” (based on my location), “what open gym times are upcoming”, “when is my trash day”, “where are nearby parks”. With the Salesforce integration, we are able to submit cases for resolution by our public works department such as, “you missed my trash pickup”, “my trash cart is broken”, “I have bulky trash that needs to be cleared.”

What's next

This effort and coincides with development of a Salesforce case management system and a new Parks and Recreation program and reservation management system. As those applications mature, we will introduce additional features that take advantage of those applications. Future intents will include the ability to register for a program, reserve a parks resource, check on league play status, check water usage, pay your utility bill and many more possibilities
