Inspiration

Have you ever wanted to cook something, but when you google for a recipe with a specific ingredient, it gives you one billion options and you spend way too long reading over all of them? Well, stress no more, because PanPal is a quick, straight to the point recipe assistant that will instantly give you a nice and easy recipe with your available ingredients! We've related this issue to fire, because we are proposing a solution for better utilizing fire to support essential human needs.

What it does

PanPal is a Discord bot that will assist you by coming up with an idea for a recipe, with the ingredients that you have at hand. The user is expected to be in a rush, since they are hungry, therefore the bot will only think about quick and easy recipes! It'll let you know how to prepare the meal, all the ingredients you need, and shortly you'll have yourself a warm and tasty dish. Let's get cooking!

How we built it

We used Autocode to help us set up PanPal and powered them with OpenAI.

Challenges we ran into

Some challenges we ran into is honestly just coming up with an idea that can be a relatable issue to many people around the world. There are so many problems out there in the world that require our attention to them to make up a solution for them. Thankfully, PanPal is a fix to an issue that many people face in their daily lives, whether it's university students, seniors, or just people with tight schedules that do not have the time for a dish that takes too long to cook.

Another challenge we ran into is making our visions and ideas come to reality. A recipe assistant can be made in so many different ways, and we are proud of how PanPal turned out to be.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of how far we've come and everything that we were able to do in the time given. It was a great learning opportunity, and it truly put our skills to the test. Thanks to our teamwork, brainstorming, and collaborative work and communication, we were able to make PanPal a reality.

What we learned

We've learned how to work with Autocode, its different functions and possibilities; How to make a Discord bot, and on top of that, how to have the most accurate prompt in order to have PanPal respond to questions that are related to recipes. Cooking can be stressful for many people, therefore we wanted to solve a problem that can be relatable to many people that have no idea where to start, which was also a learning experience.

What's next for PanPal

We are hoping to build better functions and even have a website adaptation of PanPal; we would like to come up with more innovative ways to give the user tips and tricks in other cooking related things. Not only will PanPal be able to tell you about cooking recipes based on cuisines of your choice, have a record of dishes that you liked or disliked, but also be able to remember the dietary restrictions of every user!
