Inspiration
Taking trips downtown with your friends and family can be super fun, but not knowing where to go can really kill the vibe. As a friend group, we often ran into this problem and really wished there was a solution out there that would give us some trendy, Instagrammable and fun things to do. That’s where TO The 6ix comes in!
What it does
This application is accessible through Google Assistant or Alexa. It assists users through various voice commands on what to do in the city of Toronto. It asks the users various questions to narrow down the choices of activities, separated within the categories Food, Hangout, Overnight. With pre-built, easily editable choices in the program it will always carry the “latest and trendiest” places to go in Toronto all with the power of VoiceFlow.
How we built it
There are two main components to TO the 6ix. These include our user-friendly website, and our voice application technology. The website was created using JavaScript, HTML and CSS. The website highlights all key aspects of the product relevant to the user and directs them to the Voiceflow application. The Voiceflow component is designed in such a way that gives users the option to choose between different activities that can be done in Toronto. It was important that all parts of the design were interconnected in a straightforward manner.
Challenges we ran into
As a collective, it was our first time working with Voiceflow or any voice application related software. Thus, it took awhile for us to familiarize ourselves with it. With this application, we had to focus heavily on user flow and ensure that all possibilities were accounted for so that the application would not suddenly stop on an user. We also wanted to include as much detail as possible in our application so that we could provide relevant suggestions based on what the user wanted to find. Hence, we needed to map out all of the options and where certain choices would lead in the application, which caused a delay in development time.
