Inspiration
I was watching game of thrones the last two weeks and kept thinking about the Hand of The King style ruling, the politics and the games that get played. I was thinking with the advancements in ai, a real simulation game is now possible; where your words can be interpreted into the kingdom directly.
What it does
To Rule and Suffer is an AI-driven throne-room simulation where you inherit a contested crown and rule a kingdom you never see. Question persistent characters by voice or text, consult a politically divided council, and issue your own decrees. The AI interprets every judgment, updates the realm, and turns today’s mercy or cruelty into tomorrow’s famine, rebellion, alliance, or war. Your goal is not to please everyone—it is to keep the kingdom alive and decide what kind of ruler history will remember.
How we built it
Combination of my brain, AI (codex agents and ChatGPT), AI art generation (ChatGPT), ElevenLabs for the voices and CapCut for the video
Challenges we ran into
Im not an artist so being able to get my creative vision into something I really like and consistently with AI was a challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I really like the video of gameplay slice, as I think it captures things perfectly.
What we learned
This takes a while, definitely needed more time than I thought.
What's next for To Rule and Suffer
As I am a veteran developer I will build up a prototype.
