Microhack 1: UI/UX
We used Figma to design a portal for hackathon participants, having taken inspiration from Hack404's current website as we analyzed features that we liked and others that we believed could have been improved. We considered the various design principles and fundamental UI elements about which we had learned during the workshop to create an inviting and user-friendly design.
Microhack 2: AI Agent
We used Python and OpenAI's GPT-4 LLM to create an AI Agent that helps users with task management. It makes to-do lists and continuous push reminders according to the user's specifications regarding the task's name, deadline, and time interval between alerts. The AI Agent creates personalized messages to fit the type of tasks and keep users motivated.
To truly challenge ourselves and make our efforts more accessible, we went above and beyond to create Moti AI, a friendly and lightweight Chrome extension designed to help you stay on track by delivering timely, motivational reminders.
In Moti-AI, we used Flask as a lightweight backend API to generate personalized motivational messages using OpenAI’s GPT-4.1 model. The API features a /motivate endpoint that receives a task (e.g., "finish my homework") and returns an encouraging response tailored to the user’s input. Flask made it easy to handle requests from our Chrome Extension, allowing us to deliver real-time motivation directly in the browser. We also included a /chat endpoint as a foundation for future features like journaling and habit-tracking. Flask was chosen for its simplicity, speed, and smooth integration with frontend tools.
Microhack 3: 3D Model
We used OnShape to create a 3D model of a lamp. We used sketch tools such as lines and circles to create basic 2D shapes, and used features of the part studio such as extrude, revolve and thicken to create 3D figures.
Team Portfolio (Bonus!)
We’re also putting together a team portfolio using Canva that walks through:
- The challenges we faced as a team
- What each team member contributed to each microhack
- How we collaborated effectively and supported each other through new tools and ideas
- A quick overview of the microhacks we attended, what we learned, and how we applied the knowledge
Challenges we ran into
We were all new to Figma and CAD, so we needed to take the time to learn how to use the different tools to create our microhacks.
We also needed to incorporate multi-threading into our second microhack in order to continously get user input while simultaneously outputting reminders. Since it was our first time using threads, we ran into some issues where the processes would not run together, or the threads would not stop running.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We managed to successfully collaborate in creating 3 functional projects with the new knowledge that we had gained during the workshops.
What's next
We hope to apply the knowledge that we had gained to various applications and create more impactful projects.
