Team #28: WeConnect Tutoring

Inspiration

Education remains an inaccessible right for millions of children around the world. More than 72 million children of primary education age are not in school and many are not able to afford the fees and price of tuition. Everyone has the right to education, education should be provided free of charge!! Any level student can easily access our platform to connect with a simple electronic device and internet.

What it does

WeConnect Tutoring is a simple, yet powerful, tutoring platform. An online tutor can come and set up a meeting for the person that needs to be tutored.

It's a platform where college students and high school students who are really good at something, can help others. It's like they take out some time every week to help others and tutor them. Our platform not only provides tutoring for subjects but even for guidance and advice. As all the tutors are high school students & college students they can help others with their experience. For example, if any student wants to know about the application process of MIT, then they can connect with a tutor studying at MIT and the tutor can give them the right and good guidance. We even provide our own conferencing app to cut down the cost of other conferencing app subscriptions. We have our own chat system so the tutor and student can interact with each other without any problem and faster. We even run a 24/7 study together session on our conferencing app so that people who want motivation and want to study with students all over the world, can just join the meeting and start working, looking at others' work makes you motivated to work.

How we built it

We began to build this project by initially brainstorming many ideas. WeConnect Landing Page and the Listing page was made using Html, CSS and javascript and was deployed on netlify WeConnect Chat Messaging was made using React.js, Css, ChatEngine.io, Javascript and was deployed on netlify WeConnect Conferencing App was made using Typescript, React.js, CSS, Javascript, Heroku and was deployed on netlify

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge we faced was, 2 of our people left the group at the last minute and our project was falling apart due to different time zones, it was difficult to work as our timings weren’t matching. Secondly, as two people left who were good at the authentication part, we couldn't make the listing page dynamic and couldn't add the authentication.

The ChatEngine.io which is the backend of our chat application has gone down. Their system is currently down due to which our chat app is currently not working but it will start working again when their system is up and running.

What we learned

One very important thing that all of us learned from this project would be problem-solving. All of us faced issues while we were programming the website. Through communication, teamwork, and critical thinking, we solved many problems, and as a result, we advanced our problem-solving skills. Skills like critical thinking and problem solving are very important for the future of our careers, as we will surely need to use them.

What's next for WeConnect Tutoring

We will be adding an authentication page and making our listing page dynamic so that it's easy for the tutors to get themselves registered and have their profiles on our website. We look forward to taking this idea ahead and making this an operational nonprofit organization.
