Inspiration
When we think of halloween, we think of frankenstenining amalgamations together. So what better subject than your 6-month old dead rotten github repo's, each with their own wack narrative of how they started to where they are now.
What it does
Paste a public GitHub repo -> fetches metadata, languages, README,the full recursive file tree, the latest commit, one dependency manifest and one picked source file blah blah blah blah -> renders procedural SVG monster whose signature part matches the repo's signature things & calls Claude to write details & story.
How we built it
Next.js 15, React 19, TypeScript, Tailwind, framer-motion and Zod, with Claude Haiku writing the names, traits and stories. Data comes from the GitHub REST API: Facts and the signature picked from the plain code, not AI. Monsters are made via SVG with a fake 3D camera in the lab. Tested with Vitest (118 tests) on real captured repos. Built with Claude Code as a pair programmer.
Challenges we ran into
- Not deployed on AWS -> We had a server and infra ready, we were literally just thought itd be too bothersome for a 6-hour project debugging. Unironically.
- Monsters too generic -> made it actually scrape for signature details and commits and unique wackly file structures
- Massive repos ie Cataclysm-DDA repo has 10,471 files -> we handle cut-short trees and cap file list.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- that we haven't fallen off with ideation and stuff
- the programming was all vibe coded im gonna be fr
