Inspiration
Our design inspiration is from the HDB website and Singpass because we wanted to represent the classic HDB colours with red and white. Our product inspiration is the fact that we have a technologically advanced society where citizens are inclined to use technology in their daily life. With the sheer amount of applications that exist, consumers are flooded with information from many apps. By integrating other information such as ride-sharing availability, review sites, and car park maps, we have prototyped an app that is able to provide the user with an all in one experience with regards to car park usage.
What it does
Our mobile application serves as a multi-purpose platform that allows users/residents to provide feedback on the car park facilities and equipment, to check the availability of the parking slots through annotated maps, and to engage with the various features on the app. All of these contribute to a strengthened sense of ownership of users’ own estates, thus taking good care of their own living environment.
How we built it
We built this app with the idea of innovation and accessibility in mind. Catering to residents of all HDBs, we had to make the interface simple and user experience smooth.
By prototyping our project in Figma, we are able to have the creativity of experimenting with different configurations and layouts to optimise for the masses.
While innovating, we decided to keep scalability in mind, so we decided that we should build an aggregator for all HDB-related necessities. There were so many applications and features available on the internet, like HDB’s car park locator and Govtech’s Parking.sg. However, they are often unnoticed as residents are overwhelmed by the sheer number of applications available on the internet
By leveraging on existing tools and features like HDB’s Car Park map, we were able to connect the bridges between different apps to address the gaps in the residents’ knowledge of existing features.
Challenges we ran into
We have encountered multiple practical considerations that are difficult to be solved entirely. For example, the stakeholders involved in the incentives as part of the rewards need to be willing to take part in such an initiative. Moreover, their business model needs to be relevant for the initiative and give incentives that does not incur any negative externalities (incentives that complement with other national movements).
In addition, the UX/UI tool used had to be learnt and applied within the given short period of time. Our group did not foresee on the allocation of time on the learning of the tool. However, we manage to overcome the challenge as a group and manage to create an application interface efficiently.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Despite our busy and overlapping schedules, we were able to make ample time to meet up in order to find solutions to the problem statement. We managed to prototype an app with relevant solutions, integrating real world trends such as ride sharing and information sharing from the masses. The fact that we were able to quickly learn and utilise Figma to create a prototype with a nice user interface is something we are proud of.
What we learned
Through the use of an online platform to prototype an app, working as a group of 4, we have learnt how to effectively communicate and work with each other. We have also enhanced our user interface skills by giving positive feedback on each other’s work. Furthermore, we were able to acquire the skills to fully utilise the app Figma in a relatively short period of time, which led to the completion of our prototype.
What's next for to be added
To uphold our focus on scalability, we want to integrate community events into neighbourhoods to promote a sense of belonging. We are interested to add in a new feature named “Explore” where we can showcase events happening in communities around HDB Estate. This could foster community spirit not only in our HDB block but the estate as well.
