Inspiration

-As students who see and understand what's happening to our planet, we felt obligated to do our part. One of the best ways to inspire change is to lower the barrier that's required for others to make change.

What it does

-The Lorax Institute provides bite-sized, easy to read information regarding the current state of our planet. Additionally, we provide easy to read newsletters encouraging those who may be busy to continue to stay in the loop. Finally, we provide an easy-to-use donations service that allows all individuals to understand and track where their money is going, ensuring they feel certain their donations will make an impact.

How we built it

  • To collect the necessary data that powers our graphs and newsletters, we call Google Gemini to provide us specific datapoints from all around the world. Once our data is collected and sorted, we update our graphs in real time. Finally, we use that data to send out weekly emails using agent-mail. Additionally, we allow individuals to make secure payments through our Solana donation integration. As a bonus, we clearly label wallets, helping individuals track their money and make sure it gets put to good use. ## Challenges we ran into
  • None of our team has worked with Rust or Solana. We spent a signification amount of time researching through their official docs as well as 3rd party educational resources. While this was certainly a challenge, it's something we'll be able to put to use in the future. ## Accomplishments that we're proud of
  • Following up on our challenges, we feel proud of the fact that we shipped something we've never worked with before. Between the time-constraint and the lack of sleep, it's remarkable that we were able to ship something we've never worked with before. ## What we learned
  • When learning something new, we should expect hurdles and challenges. Things we would expect to take a short amount of time often turn into bugs or extended researching sessions, setting our time-table back. (We also learned that sleeping is important). ## What's next for TLI- The Lorax Initiative
  • As time goes on, we'll continue to build upon our work bringing more and more people into our community. We'll look to add more features, market to more users, and increase our impact.
