Inspiration
During the past weeks, I have played a lot of different board games. A lot. I have reached the point where I'd love to play something new, but actually searching for new games is something that takes some time. So, the goal of this project is to make a partially-automatic recommendation process for users.
What it does
This web application sends you a SMS message that contains information about a random board game, such as the name, a short description and the number of players.
How I built it
I started with the sample code snippet from the Twilio API documentation. From there, I researched about the implementation for Node.js, created a base app to interact with the user and finally connected it to a small database.
Challenges we ran into
The guides on the Twilio docs were not completely explicit about the process, so I had to figure some things out by trying out and experimenting.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Made it in one day!
Also, I have been practicing with APIs for a month, and I'm pretty proud of the results so far.
What I learned
How to consume the Twilio API from a Node.js app, starting off from the knowledge I already had on Node.js and APIs.
What's next for Tip Board
- A better user interface
- Integration with a board game API
- Better result filtering based on user preferences (such as game length or genre)
- Maybe a one-time signup process for complete message automation
