Inspiration
We wanted to explore local businesses in College Station but googling "small businesses in my area" pulled up large corporations like HEB or didn't present the info in a way that was inviting.
What it does
Our website creates a page for each local restaurant or café in college station and allows users to essentially preview each place. Each page includes a description of the restaurant, an interactive graphic that shows their signature dishes, and their hours, location and website. Users will be able to click through a multitude of local businesses or view the appendix.
How we built it
We used several websites to find small businesses in our area and collected the data from each one. We then used HTML and CSS to format this information in a fun, interactive and easy to read way. Each page is it's own HTML file and similar pages shared a CSS style page.
Challenges we ran into
We tried to implement a feature where the businesses could input their own data and the website automatically creates a page for them, but given the time constraints, we were unable to make this feature work fully.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We hand-drew all of the graphics within the time, and all three of us had very little web development experience before this. We all practically learned CSS and HTML and JavaScript within 24 hours.
What we learned
We learned web development from start to finish, and CSS, HTML and JavaScript languages.
What's next for Tiny but Mighty
We are hoping to make the input feature work so the website can expand and help more small businesses in our area. Another plan we had was to expand it for more than just College Station and be able to take location data and locate small businesses around their area.
