Inspiration

I discovered the Legends of Kallisti multiuser dungeon almost three years ago, and have been an avid player ever since. The main features that drew me in were open developers, endless playability, and the paragon system for an added challenge as well as a means to unlock new classes and features. I did not find a pack for tintin++ when I first started playing, so I decided to make one.

What it does

  • Provide audio cues for blind players as to their hitpoints, mana, and stamina.
  • Provide some nicities around recasting spells when they fall, as well as restarting buffs.
  • Out of the box playing of sounds using the sox audio software.
  • Custom functionality using a hook system.

How I built it

Primarily, tintin++ for the multiuser dungeon client, sox for generating audio, and various other software packages for posting to places such as GNU Social, Mastodon, or Twitter.

Challenges I ran into

Primarily, keeping the code in my mind was quite a challenge. As the project grew along with the evolution of the tintin language, there were some small gotchas that crept up that made the project interesting to maintain over a period of time.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

  • We are featured in the help files as the premier implementation for MSDP support.
  • The project has inspired developers to make their own versions, with different features.
  • The project has been going strong for almost three years, which is quite impressive for a hobby project. ## What I learned
  • How to make audio tones with sox.
  • How tintin++ works under the hood in regards to telnet processing.

What's next for Tintin Kallisti Pack

Evolving with the Kallisti game, implementing new features as they come along.
