We were inspired by Catholic Charities offering of Refugee Services and wanted to somehow incorporate a way to offer English classes to those trying to integrate into society.

What it does

Our App provides users with an easy way to search for free or low cost services such as language classes, computer classes, job training, career prep, or food and clothes drives that are happening near their location and at specific dates and times.

How I built it

We built our app using Android Studio and mongodb. We merged our different parts together using Gitbhub.

Challenges I ran into

We had trouble connecting our backend code to the front end of our application. We also ran into many issues while trying to merge our separate parts with gitHub and had to debug errors one-by-one.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

We're very proud of how much we learned through this process. None of our team members knew anything about Android dev before this hackathon and now we have working app!

What I learned

I learned how to build an Android app! I've never used Java before and was completely unfamiliar with Androids and Android studio in general. I also had a lot of fun learning how to code the XML files, something I'm also quite new with.

What's next for TinTex

Version 2.0 will include a filter with which users can find specific services that are offered at times and days that are most convenient to them. Map integration will also be included so that users can find events relatively close to their current location in case of transportation limitation. Another idea of ours was to include code that will automatically grab data from certain websites and include their events as well. We also hope to create a website for those without Androids or who would rather just access our service online.
