Inspiration

As someone who is slightly visually impaired, I understand the constant anxiety and confusion felt when I am without my glasses or contact lenses. Now, imagine that on a greater scale. Today, approximately 2.2 billion people are visually impaired, with 55% being women. Which is why I was inspired to create TintedEyes. TintedEyes was created especially for people with moderate to severe visual impairment. Rather than having to ask shop workers a million questions about specific makeup products which can be cumbersome during rush hours or for more introverted people, TintedEyes enables users to be independent and confident.

What it does

TintedEyes helps eliminate the necessity for the middleman. Rather than having to find a shop worker which can be slightly annoying at times, TintedEyes makeup products are created with an indentation of braille that lists the color, ingredients, and name of the product, allowing users to know exactly what they are buying. Furthermore, for those who do not read braille, TintedEyes ensures that they can read the labels easier by labeling everything in green, the color that is scientifically proven to be most sensitive for our eyes.

How we built it

For the products, TintedEyes hope to use sustainable materials that are light, recyclable, and BPA-free. I also hope to use predominantly yellow or green labeling with a minimalist design to ensure that users can easily read the labels. For the coding part, a code will be created to allow companies to swiftly translate English words to Braille.

Challenges we ran into

Some challenges I ran into was learning about the types of Braille and which type of Braille to use for the makeup products. As someone who doesn’t know a lot about Braille, I didn’t know about there being different types of Braille and the differences between each of them. I also didn’t know how to code or type Braille, meaning that that was challenging as well.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud of being able to create something that can potentially help millions of lives.

What we learned

Firstly, I learned how to code Braille which was pretty challenging. Secondly, I learned about the business proposal ideas behind it.

What's next for TintedEyes

If TintedEyes is successful, I hope to branch out to skincare products as well.
