Inspiration

Inspiration for this project was the first challenge each student faces when coming to the big city of Munich - finding accommodation! Amongst many difficulties that follow, e.g paperwork or leaving home's nest, one must also find a place to live. That often results in countless searches amongst WG websites, being ghosted by strangers, or facing unreasonably high prices. It gets even worse when the WG you searched for so long to find, turns out to be with flatmates with whom you just don't get along. We're not stating that someone must be the bad guy, but not all people like & get along with all people.

What it does

Our Application is many things, in these early stages, it should mainly play the role of a social network between newly baked students. You register while providing a little information about yourself and in 5 easy steps, you are a member of our community! Here, you will be able to see other students on their way to independence, also looking for accommodation. Not only that but since everyone enters certain preferences while registering, students shown to you will already be filtered out according to your personal taste such as location preference, budget & even preference towards pets. Someone seems to look like a good friend or WG partner? It's a match! It's now your turn to message each other and look for an appealing accommodation we also list on our website, already filtered out by your personal preferences. Once you have found a group of people you get along with, you confirm your group and it's time to proceed into a new life chapter. You're on your own kid, may the Exzellenz be with you on every step you go!

How we built it

This project is built using Vue, HTML/CSS, JavaScript, nodejs, express, MongoDB. We first developed our idea and created our use case. Afterward, we brainstormed for all possible turns our project could take, discussing both strong & weak points. After thorough research, we started developing our product by dividing our group into the backend and the frontend. In the end, everyone ended up doing everything, as 36hours was definitely not enough time to make the existence of our idea.

Challenges we ran into

Our dedication & resilience was most tested during this Hackaton, as we didn't get any sleep during these 3 days trying to bring our vision to life.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Not letting go of the code until the very last submission minute. We were really lucky to have a wonderful team that worked together remarkably great, despite not knowing each other prior to this (Apart from Georg & Pascal)

What we learned

It is possible to not sleep for 3 days and still be energetic if the motivation is right. It is possible to live on campus in one 2x3 room. It is possible to create something good & constantly work & have fun.

What's next for TinderHousing

Happy to answer this question! The main goal of TinderHousing is to provide a safety bridge between landlords & students. Landlords of course want trusty students who can live together for a long time and not cause problems, while students want to find an affordable place to live preferably not with complete strangers. And even if you don't get along, with TinderHousing students can effortlessly change WG without the hassle of dealing with the landlord or contracts. How? As a middleman and trust entity we directly have contracts with the landlords and under our umbrella students can freely transition from WG to WG. We will be the one both sides could rely on. Additionally to that, a lot of older people living in Munich would love to have someone spend time with them, shop with them, maybe provide a meaningful conversation here and there in exchange for more affordable housing. We would again take our role of a trustworthy middleman and connect the two sides. However, not to limit us, we intend to spread our wings even further and provide aid for even larger social groups. Thank you for reading and have a nice day!
